Head Epee Coach – Nashville Academy of Fencing (Part-Time or Full-Time)
The Nashville Academy of Fencing (NAF) is looking for a head epee coach to run and grow our community-focused program in one of the fastest-growing metros in the country.
About NAF
- 501(c)(7) non-profit, run by and for its members, founded in 2021
- ~70 members. Our membership has almost tripled in three years.
- A real mix of ages, so you'd be coaching kids, teens, and adults. Of the 61 members with an age on file:
- Ages 12 and under: 20 (33%)
- Ages 13-20: 18 (30%)
- Ages 21-39: 12 (20%)
- Ages 40+: 11 (18%)
About 6 in 10 members are under 21, so strong youth teaching skills matter.
- Dedicated, fully equipped salle with 4 grounded strips.
- Mostly epee, with some foil and sabre fencers who drop in for open bouting.
- Two A-rated vet epee fencers currently serve as co-head coaches. We also sent a fencer to the 2026 Vet World Championships!
-
We're passionate about fencing, but we have day jobs. We want a coach who can take the program further than we can on nights and weekends.
What we're looking for
- At least 2 years of coaching experience in epee (foil and/or sabre is a plus)
- Ability to plan and run a training curriculum for all levels, youth through adult, recreational through competitive
- Builds class schedules and teaches youth in a fun, engaging way
- Communicates well with athletes and parents
- Willing to do limited travel to support competitive fencers
- Helps promote NAF and fencing, including social media outreach to drive enrollment
- Entrepreneurial, affable, "can-do" attitude
- Able to pass SafeSport training and a background check
What we offer
- Competitive compensation package
- Bonus / progressive compensation tied to membership growth
- Health insurance, PTO, and continuing education, depending on compensation structure
- Full control over the coaching curriculum
- Full administrative support from the NAF Board
- Coaching support from experienced members
- This role reports to the NAF Board of Directors, composed of veteran fencers and parents
