Coach Teitenberg started fencing in 1991 under coaches Charlotte and Eric Howard while attending Vanderbilt University. Upon graduating from Vanderbilt, John became an assistant coach with the program and served as the Chairman of the Tennessee Division of USA Fencing. After moving to Louisville in the late 1990’s, he trained under Maestro Stawicki for several years.

John returned to Nashville to raise a family and his two young daughters train at the club.

John still occasionally competes and is rated a ‘A23’ in Épée.

John has a history of competitive success. Some of his more notable accomplishments are:

  • Bronze Medalist, “Omaha Challenge” Sectional Event (1995)
  • Top-8 Medalist, Division II North American Cup (1995)

  • Silver Medalist, Georgia State Games (1998)
  • Gold Medalist, Crescent City Open (1998)
  • Gold Medalist, Great Lake Sectionals (1998)
  • Silver Medalist, Crescent City Open (2002)
